Measure two things and match both to the size chart above: your dog's chest girth (around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs) and back length (from the base of the neck to the base of the tail). If the two fall in different sizes, choose the larger.
Measure your dog rather than relying on weight. Two dogs of the same weight can have very different chest and back proportions, and proportions are what determine fit. Use a soft tape with your dog standing, and take the chest girth and back length for the most reliable size.
Choose the larger size. A piece should sit comfortably without pressing on the chest or shoulders, and a slightly roomier fit is easier to put on and more comfortable to wear. Chest girth is the measurement that matters most, so prioritise it when you decide.
Yes. Breeds vary widely in shape, so measure your individual dog rather than relying on breed alone, since size varies within every breed. Deep, narrow builds (such as dachshunds) and broad, short-muzzled builds (such as French bulldogs) often need different proportions, which is why we size from measurements.
